Tribute Park's 'Sunset In The Park' Fundraiser Draws Crowd As Sun Goes Down, Fireboat Frames Emotional National Anthem
As the sun slowly met Jamaica Bay on Thursday evening, hundreds of locals stood for the singing of the "Star Spangled Banner," while an FDNY fireboat, first used in 1938, spewed water a hundred feet in the air. It was an emotional end to an evening that drew a crowd to Tribute Park on Beach 116 Street and Beach Channel Drive. The park is dedicated to the memory of those locals who died in the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 and to all the firefighters who died that day. Winners of a photo contest centering around the park and its meaning were presented with awards during the evening. Those photographs will be on view at the HSBC bank across from the park for the month of August.
